Veronica Burleigh (1909 - 1999)

She was born to the artists Charles and Averil Burleigh in Hove, Sussex.   She studied at the Slade 1927 – 30 under Henry Tonks.   She moved to Henfield in the Sussex countryside in 1970 where she painted a lot of landscapes (Pror to the move she had mainly painted portraits).   For over 20 years she made an annual trip to Rhodesia, where she had 23 solo exhibitions.

In the Second World War she served with the Womens’ Auxiliary Air Force

She also exhibited  at New English Art Club, Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Institute of Oil Painters; Society of Women Artists, The Sussex Women Art Club and Locally with the Sussex Painters.   Her works are held by Henfield Museum, Hove Museum & Art Gallery and the Royal Air Force Museum.
